Calvia

Calvia is located in the west of Mallorca, just 20 minutes from the island’s airport. Calvia boasts both great beaches and a modern infrastructure with shops and plenty of bars and restaurants. At the same time it has managed to retain it’s old village charm and tradition.

The town has become a popular destination for visitors and foreign residents alike. There are currently over 100 nationalities living in and around Calvia. Stand on the terrace looking out over almond and carob trees and it is hard to believe you are just a few kilometres from the lively resort of Magaluf.

Peace and quiet, natural spaces of incomparable beauty, quality, and prestigious tourism, Calvia has everything you need in a perfect holiday destination. The municipality is located 20 kilometres from Palma and its airport.

History & Culture
Founded in 1249 with 80 inhabitants, the town had a population of 3,000 in 1960 and 11,560 in 1980, the growth based on it’s growing tourist popularity.

The town is dominated by the church of Sant Joan Baptsta, which was built in the late 19th century, upon the original 13th century structure. Close by there is a fountain, in which a ceramic mural tells the story of Calvia’s history.

Leisure & recreation
In the municipality of Calvia, which covers both the town of Calvia itself, as well as other towns such as lively Magaluf, Son Ferrer, Palamnova and Santa Ponca, you can enjoy a wealth of leisure facilities including golf, water sports and a nautical club, indoor swimming pools, sports facilities and cycling routes.

Lovers of golf will be in their element here, as there are several courses to play on nearby.

Eating out
In true Mediterranean character, Mallorcan cuisine can be experienced in a wide variety of restaurants in Calvia, whose specialities incorporate both meat and fish of the finest quality.

There are also numerous international restaurants, representing gastronomies from all over the world.

Places to visit
With its central location, it’s easy to go off and explore other towns and villages in the area - the road systems are particularly good. Some suggested places would be the town of Andratx, including the port along the coastline as well as the city of Palma and the beaches around Palma Nova and Magaluf.

Climate
The mild, stable climate offers an average temperature of 30ºC in summer and 14ºC in winter. Around 300 sunny days a year light up the sunny coastline of Calvia.

Calvia anmeldelser

We went to Calvia once, a nice town. Lived in Costa d'en Blanes, where there wasn't much. Drove to Palmanova (7 minuts) where they had shops, restaurants and beaches.
